Disney UFO

Hi everyone,
I think this is such a great idea and I'm so happy to join you all in it.

First I guess I want to tell you the story and see if you think you'd even finish the UFO that I have...

So about three years ago I was dating a guy, pretty nice guy, very obsessed with starting a family. He had picked up for me when he was in California one summer (we live in Canada) this beautiful Disney piece by Stoney Creek called Past, Present, Future. The idea was that I would stitch it up for a potential child that we would one day have...
Then that same summer a few months later disaster hit that idea... I have a feminine disease that will make it unlikely for me to have children (and they don't suggest I try unless I am completely set on it). I was a bit crushed, but kinda got over it. He did not get over it... I continued working on the piece for another year and a half until we finally split up.
There is a happy end to this story though... just a few months ago (now just over a year since the split up with the other guy) I moved in with a guy I had seen years back, who is super nice. I had gotten quite sick and he moved in with me to help me out.. and has just never left! :) He has no quams about us having no children and in fact prefers that (or we have discussed adopting a child too!)

Okay so to make my long story short... I have this epic UFO that could be nice (though I stitched it three threads on 28ct evenweave which I would not ever do again, it's too bulky but way, but too late to change it). Would you finish stitching it? And when you're done with it what would you do with it? I have considered trying to finish it and if one of my good friends has a baby giving it to them... or even donating it to a hospital or something for display... but just seem to feel gross everytime I try to stitch the piece as I am a bit bitter over being left just because I couldn't have kids.

Sorry this is a long and epic post.
Here is a (bad) picture of it I took last year. I should get a new one and post it up here for you ladies. (the bottom is stitched but got cut off by my scroll rods... really need a new pic of this)
So I guess I want your thoughts and opinions on what you would do with this...
(oh I have also considered seeing if someone else just wants the pattern and they can have my half done piece and finish it themselves too). I figure there is another 4 months at least of time to go into this piece to finish it, if it was stitched as the only piece (I have numerous pieces on the go right now)

I would most certainly finish it, then I would decide if I wanted to keep it or not. I might end up donating it to a charity auction or something. Or I might keep it...

But I would finish it. No doubt about it.

This project looks absolutely gorgeous and what's more it's over half way finished. I would try and forget why it was bought in the first place and who by. Get it finished and then decide what to do with it.

Forgot to mention, I'm sure you will get lots of encouragement on this blog!

Mel, what a wonderful design this is. And you've gotten so much done! What a shame that it has such bad feelings associated with it. I hope you finish it because it will be beautiful. Then you can decide whether to keep it or give it away.

I agree with everyone else. It is too lovely to be left. I am sure when it is finished you will know what to do with it. I wish you much happiness in your new relationship.

Mel,

Get rid of it! And don't give it to anyone who will display it somewhere you will see it again. Perhaps someone in a retirement home would want to finish it.

I know I'm in the minority here, and I do agree that it is a lovely design, but it makes you feel bad every time you look at it. You want to feel relaxed and at peace when you stitch.

The past is the past, it is over and done. We need to concentrate on the present and the future. We don't need to keep anything in our home that brings up bad memories.

Your new new guy sounds like a keeper and I wish you all the best.

I'm with Amy.

If it resurrects bad memories, you just don't nead it.

I can't really say if I would finish it or not. I probably couldn't to be honest....but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not just throw it away. It's beautiful and I'm sure someone else would enjoy it.

Mel, I'll probably be in the minority here too, but if working on this piece doesn't feel right then don't work on it again. If you're like me this in one of your main passions and we all know passion is a feel good thing. LOL

I really liked your idea about getting the piece finished and then donating it to a children's hospital (thinking cancer ward) or a local charity but think I like the hospital idea better.

Maybe you can do a give away on your blog. I know I'd enter even though it isn't soemthing that would normally catch my eye, but the idea of donating it somewhere a sick child might be inspired by it I really like.

This is too gorgeous to let someone spoil it for you! Can't wait to see it finished!

I think you should finish this...just work on it a little bit each day...and if you don't want it than give it to a Children's Hospital or other Children's organization that will brighten up Children...

That is way too Beautiful for you not to finish it.

If you don't want to finish it and I mean if you really don't want to I would love to have this beautiful project and finish it myself.

Like I said...it is just too beautiful not to finish it.

Take care & Happy Stitching

Well, as the title suggests... Past, Present, and Future. You could look at it as a representation of all of those things for you. Good luck with it!

Hi Mel,
What a lovely design. I think rather like the title. Let the Past go and do it now in the Present, bit by bit and with ease. then in the Future when all finished look at it with pride that you overcame the odds. I can understand that you may not want to keep it's memories so think positive and let it cheer the young children by possibly giving it to a Children's Hospice.
Good luck with your new man and keep your chin up. Don't let it stop you stitching.

I LOVE this piece! We went to Disney World this past week and I looked in the shops to find this, but the shop folks say that it's no longer available. :( Now I'm gonna start haunting e-bay to find it! Anyway, the main thing is - we stitch because we love the process and hopefully, the finished result. Search your heart - how do you feel about displaying this as a finished piece in your home? Pride in your handiwork abilities or sorrow for what happened in a time period in your life? There is no right or wrong to this - just follow your heart. I'm so happy that your life is in a better place - good for you for moving on!! :)
